Your CROA Rights: Read This Before Hiring Any Credit Repair Company
Before you pay anyone a dollar to fix your credit, know the federal law written to protect you from them. It is called CROA.

The credit repair industry has a reputation, and a good chunk of it is earned. There are real operators who help people and there are predators who take a desperate person’s money and deliver nothing. Congress knew this, which is why there is a federal law aimed squarely at credit repair companies: the Credit Repair Organizations Act, or CROA. It exists to protect you. Here is what it guarantees, in plain English.
Your rights under CROA
Every one of these applies to any company that offers to improve your credit for a fee. If a company violates any of them, that is not a gray area. It is against the law.
- ◆A written contract. You must get a written agreement that spells out the services, the total cost, how long it will take, and any guarantee. Read it before you sign.
- ◆A required disclosure. Before you sign anything, the company must give you a written statement of your rights, including your right to dispute errors yourself for free.
- ◆Three-business-day cancellation. You have the right to cancel the contract within three business days, for any reason, with no penalty and no fee.
- ◆No false or misleading claims. The company cannot lie about what it can do, and cannot advise you to make false statements to a bureau or to misrepresent your credit.
The red flags that scream scam
Put CROA to work as a checklist. A company is a hard no if it does any of these:
- 1.Guarantees it can remove accurate negative items or hit a specific score.
- 2.Tells you to dispute information you know is accurate.
- 3.Suggests you create a new credit identity, sometimes called file segregation or a CPN. This can be criminal fraud, and the person left holding the bag is you.
- 4.Refuses to put its promises, pricing, and timeline in writing.
- 5.Pressures you to sign right now, before you have read anything.
What a company like ours actually promises
Here is our side of the same law. We tell you upfront that you can dispute errors yourself for free. We put our services, pricing, and timeline in writing, and you get every figure before you commit to anything. We only pursue items that appear inaccurate, outdated, or unverifiable. And we never, ever promise you a number, because the honest ones never do. What we promise is that we will fight for you by the rulebook, and that you will always know exactly where you stand.
That is the whole point of CROA. It draws a clear line between the crews that help and the ones that prey. Now you can see the line too, and no one can pull you across it.
