Credit repair for Arlington, from the crew next door.

We are a Fort Worth crew, a short drive west. You will never make that drive. Everything happens by phone or video.

How does it work from Arlington?

Three steps. A free call so we hear what is going on. A line-by-line read of all three reports. Then disputes on the items that look inaccurate, outdated, or unverifiable, sent to the bureaus and to whoever is reporting them.

Pull your reports free at AnnualCreditReport.com. The FTC says you can check each bureau once a week there, at no cost.

Is Arlington's homebuyer assistance open right now?

The City of Arlington has a Homebuyers Assistance Program, called AHAP. The city describes it as a forgivable loan of up to $20,000 at 0% interest, forgiven after a five-year affordability period, for first-time buyers with low to moderate income.

Here is the catch. The city's Quality Housing Resources page has said the program does not have a local partner helping run it. Check that page before you build a plan around AHAP.

The same city page points to statewide options: TDHCA's My First Texas Home and My Choice Texas Home, and TSAHC's down payment assistance and Mortgage Credit Certificates. TDHCA's homebuyer site says step one is connecting with one of its participating loan officers. It also links Housing Channel, a Fort Worth-based homeownership group that says its homeownership classes are free.

None of these pages list a credit score minimum. The lender sets its own rules and pulls your report. We work on the report. The lender decides.

Got court papers over a debt?

Your answer is due 14 days after you are served, per TexasLawHelp.org, and filing it is free. Miss it, and the other side can ask for a default judgment. We are not lawyers. Get legal help on the lawsuit first, then call us about the report.

What we can and can't do

We can read every line of all three reports with you. We can dispute the items that look inaccurate, outdated, or unverifiable, and follow up round after round. We can walk you toward business credit when you are ready.

We can't promise a score. We can't make accurate, current information go away. We are not a law firm and we do not give legal advice. We are not a lender, and we do not decide who gets a loan. Results vary.

Federal law gives you three business days after you sign a credit repair contract to cancel it, without penalty or obligation.

Questions from Arlington

Do I have to come to Fort Worth?

No. Phone or video, start to finish. You never drive anywhere.

Does Arlington's AHAP require a certain credit score?

The city page we checked does not list one. The mortgage lender sets its own credit rules, so ask the lender.

Can you guarantee I will qualify for a mortgage?

No. Nobody honest can. Lenders decide who qualifies and on what terms. Results vary.

Bad credit is a cage. It was never a life sentence.
